My Essential macOS Apps

  • Adobe Suite – Mainly for small image and vector edits.
  • 1Password – To have unique passwords everywhere.
  • Amphetamine – To keep my MacBook awake.
  • BatFi – Manually adjust charge limit, since I am most of the time on corded power.
  • ChatGPT – Mainly for research and questions. Also, some smaller text edits, but I generally try to avoid LLMs for this blog.
  • Clipy – The best clipboard manager, can't work without it.
  • Color Picker – Why doesn't macOS have one?
  • DaVinci Resolve – For cutting my vacation videos.
  • Firefox – Because of Adblocking and Containers.
  • HandBrake – Crush the size of screencasts.
  • Hidden Bar – Tidy up the many bar which has 24 icons without
  • Infuse – To play media from my NAS.
  • LinearMouse – To have reverse scrolling on the mouse but natural on the Trackpad. Also, no mouse acceleration.
  • LuLu – To know for sure which app is phoning home (or worse: somewhere else).
  • MacGesture – Global mouse gestures to speed things up.
  • MonitorControl – Changes display brightness of external monitors too (via DCC).
  • Pieoneer – Tidy app launcher for my most used stuff.
  • Rectangel Pro – Freely configurable windows manager.
  • Reeder Classic – To stay up to date.
  • VirtualBuddy – To have a sandbox machine at hand.
  • Visual Studio Code – My go-to text editor.
  • WireGuard – Connecting to my home network.
  • WorkFlowy – My second brain.
