Go Dark

What better post could I write after Color Up? Exactly, doing the exact opposite. But surely, not for your wardrobe. With Go Dark I mean using Dark Mode on screens and devices, because (spoiler alert) – my eyes thanked me for it.

So the thing is, I completely switched to Dark Mode around two years ago, knowing that by the end of that year, I would swap my iPhone SE for an iPhone 16 Pro. Since the newer iPhones all have OLED displays, I thought that going Dark Mode would improve battery life. And it did (but maybe not as much as I thought it would).

However, after those two years, I can report an even better life improvement: my eye strain is gone. I have had eye strain my whole life, especially during spring every year. I did allergy tests and went to two eye doctors, but they told me everything was fine. But after the second subsequent year without eye strain, I can only attribute it to switching to Dark Mode on all my devices.

The years before that, I had True Tone and Night Shift enabled too. While that helps me get better sleep at night, it did not reduce my eye strain. Only switching to Dark Mode everywhere made a lasting difference.

So, if you have been dealing with similar problems, give it a try!
